You’ll Want To Put This Apple Butter On Everything!
Fall is almost here, which means it’s time to eat all things apple! When you come home from the orchard, make sure to set some fruit aside to make this decadent Crockpot Apple Butter!
Thanks to this simple recipe, you can spread spice-filled fall flavor on all your favorite baked goods. With just 6 ingredients and a crock pot, you can whip up some Homemade Apple Butter to enjoy all season long.

Slow Cooker Apple Butter Ingredients
This recipe calls for 6 pounds of apples ( I prefer Granny Smith apples), granulated and brown sugar, apple pie spice, vanilla extract, and a few tablespoons of salted butter.
Unlike a lot of other apple butter recipes, this particular recipe has actual butter in it, so it tastes extra rich and creamy! However, if you have a dairy sensitivity, it can be omitted.
How To Make Apple Butter In A Crockpot
Making this sweet treat is as easy as making Homemade Applesauce or Apple Cider in the slow cooker. It does take a long time to cook, but I promise it’s worth it!
1. Add the peeled and cored apples, sugars, spice, and vanilla to an 8-quart crockpot and cover and cook on low for 8 hours (image below).
2. After 8 hours, use a immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth.
3. Add in the butter and continue to cook on low for another 2 hours.

How To Can Apple Butter
1. Add hot apple butter into a hot jar, leaving ¼-inch headspace. Remove air bubbles. Wipe jar rim. Center lid on the jar and adjust the band to finger-tip tight. Place jar in boiling-water canner. Repeat until all jars are filled.
2. Lower the rack into simmering water. Water must cover the tops of the jars by 1 inch. Adjust heat to medium-high, cover the canner and bring water to a rolling boil. Process half-pint or pint jars for 10 minutes.
3. Turn off heat and remove the cover. Let the jars cool for 5 minutes. Remove the jars from the canner; do not retighten bands if loose. Cool for 12 hours. Check seals. Lids should not press up and down when the center is pressed.
Storage for Apple Butter
Refrigerator: 3 Weeks – Store in an airtight container.
Freezer: 6 to 12 months
Canned: Years
How To Freeze Apple Butter
- Once the apple butter is cool to the touch, ladle it into freezer containers, leaving 1/2 inch headspace in each one. Seal the containers and place in the freezer, I like to put a piece of plastic wrap over the top before adding the lid.
- Thaw the apple butter by placing it in the refrigerator overnight.

How To Serve Homemade Apple Butter
You can have Apple Butter fresh, or put it in jars to savor the autumn flavor all year round! Once you start snacking on this stuff, you’re going to want an extra supply.
This is definitely a must-have condiment for the brunch table as the leaves start changing. Try spreading it on biscuits, toast, Buttermilk Pancakes, waffles, and muffins. It’s also a great option to stir into oatmeal or yogurt or as a dipping sauce for pork chops!
There are also plenty of unexpected ways to use Apple Butter, too: try it warmed and on top of vanilla ice cream, with mashed or baked sweet potatoes, in a sweet and savory marinade, and even mixed into a tasty cocktail!

Apple Butter Makes A Great Gift!
I also like keeping a couple of jars on hand to bring as hostess gifts. Sometimes I present it as a set alongside a canister of pancake or biscuit mix, or attach a card with pairing ideas and a recipe on it!
There’s nothing like the taste of fresh fall apples, and this easy Apple Butter Recipe is the perfect way to enjoy it in all sorts of ways! Try making it this season, but be careful — you may get addicted!
