How To Store Chocolate Malt Buttercream Frosting

Leftover chocolate malt frosting can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.

Left on the counter (like on your baked goods), it’s good for 2 to 3 days — just make sure everything is covered with a glass lid or plastic wrap.

How To Serve Ovaltine Chocolate Frosting

On everything! Okay, but more specifically, this recipe will add tasty nostalgia to basic chocolate, vanilla, and Yellow Cake recipes.

It’s also delicious paired with marble and coffee-flavored confections (really, the possibilities are endless!). Of course, there’s nothing wrong with dipping pretzels or graham cracker sticks right into the frosting bowl. 😉

What Makes It A Buttercream?

Ovaltine chocolate malt frosting is a buttercream by definition simply because it’s made with butter. On the other hand, non-buttercream frostings are usually made with shortening or cream cheese, instead.

Once you have a basic buttercream recipe, you can make fancy variations like lemon, honey, and cinnamon. And, don’t forget to keep classic Vanilla Buttercream and Chocolate Buttercream recipes on hand, too.
