Serve it up at breakfast for an indulgent start to the day or after dinner for dessert! Personally, I enjoy my slice the most with a good cup of coffee or tea as I unwind from the day once the kids are in bed.

Ingredients For Apple Fritter Bread

This Easy Apple Fritter Bread Recipe is broken down into four quick parts, which are all made with common baking ingredients. First, the bread batter, then the apple mixture, followed by a spiced brown sugar mixture, and lastly, the sweet glaze!

To make the batter, you’ll grab granulated sugar, vanilla extract, baking powder, and all-purpose flour from the pantry. The bread batter is then completed with the additions of softened salted butter, large eggs, Greek yogurt, and whole milk.

Once the batter is made, the apple mixture is up next! Granny Smith apples are peeled and diced before getting a coating of light brown sugar and ground cinnamon.

While I personally reach for granny smith apples for this recipe, there are others that would work well, too! Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Pink Lady, Gala, and Fuji all have great flavor and a good texture that would hold up well in this bread.

Now that the batter and apple mixture are ready, next is the spiced brown sugar mixture. For this light brown sugar, ground cinnamon and granulated sugar are whisked together.

With all three parts ready, the bread is then assembled and baked to delicious perfection! While it cools, you’ll prepare the sweet vanilla glaze by combining powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract.

How To Make Apple Fritter Bread

  1. Beat the salted butter and granulated sugar together using a mixer until smooth. Then add in the eggs one at a time.
  2. Add in the vanilla extract, baking powder, and all-purpose flour. Mix until blended, being careful not to overmix the batter.
  3. Mix in the Greek yogurt and milk gently. Then, set this aside.
  4. Stir together the light brown sugar and cinnamon that will be used to coat the apples. Set this aside.
  5. Mix together the spiced sugar topping by stirring brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and granulated sugar. Set this bowl aside as well.
  6. Peel the apples and then dice them up before adding them to the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and then top with half of the apple mixture.
  8. Sprinkle with the spiced sugar topping. Then, swirl a knife through the layers.
  9. Repeat the layers for a second time with the remaining batter, apple mixture, and spiced brown sugar mixture. Again, swirling the layers with a knife.
  10. Bake the Apple Fritter Loaf until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Whisk the glaze ingredients together while the loaf cools on a wire rack. Then drizzle the loaf with the glaze and enjoy!

Notes

  • How Do I Store A Loaf Of This Apple Fritter Bread? Tightly wrap the loaf in plastic wrap and then store it at room temperature. Enjoy the bread for up to 4 days or place it in the freezer and eat it within 2 months.
  • Why Is There A Glaze For This Bread? The glaze makes the bread taste more like a true Apple Fritter. It also makes the bread sweeter (and more delicious!) so you can totally leave it off if you’d like!
  • What Can I Use In This Recipe Instead Of Yogurt? Just replace the yogurt with more milk, increasing it from1/4 cup to 2/3 cup. Then add a tablespoon of vinegar to it and allow the mixture to sit before adding it to the batter. I find this easy step gives the bread a little more lift!
  • What If The Chopped Apple Mixture Begins To Release Juices Before Adding Them To The Batter? Once the apples are coated with the cinnamon-sugar mixture you do need to work quickly! If not the apples will begin to sweat and release juices. If that’s happened just simply use a slotted spoon to drain the liquid before using them in the batter.
  • How Can I Thicken The Glaze? If you find that the glaze is too thin you can simply add a bit more powdered sugar to it. If you find the glaze is too thick you can easily thin it by adding a bit more cream.
  • What Should I Do If The Bread Is Browning But Isn’t Cooked All The Way Through? Not a problem, just remove the loaf from the oven and cover it with tin foil. This will protect it from burning. Then transfer it back into the oven and continue baking until it’s cooked all the way through.
  • Can I Use Unsalted Butter In This Recipe? Yes, you can. To do so, just add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the bread recipe.
  • How Many Loaves Of Apple Bread Does This Recipe Deliver? You’ll get one 9x5-inch loaf from the recipe. However, feel free to use mini loaf pans as well! Or even double the recipe to get two large loaves.
  • What Can I Use Instead Of Heavy Cream When Making The Glaze? If you don’t have any heavy milk you can just replace it with milk. Whole milk would be best but feel free to use what you have on hand!
