These scrumptious squares go by many names. But whether you call ‘em Seven Layer Bars, 7 Layer Bars, Cookie Bars, or Magic Bars, they have a mysterious way of disappearing!

So gather the kiddos and make a batch of Halloween Magic Bars with all your family’s favorite treats! And make a batch of these Halloween Monster Cookies too!

What is a 7 layer bar?

These tasty squares consist of a cookie base and layers of treats like crushed cookies, candy, coconut flakes, nuts, chocolate, and more. There’s also a layer of gooey sweetened condensed milk.

7-Layer Bars Ingredients

  • Ready-to-bake refrigerated chocolate chip cookies – Firm and chewy when baked, this dough is the base of the bars.
  • Candy and cookie layers – Halloween Oreos, chocolate chunks, Reeses Pieces, and Halloween M&Ms fill each bite with deliciousness. These can be swapped out for your favorite treats.
  • Sweetened condensed milk – Once cooked, it becomes like sticky dulce de leche.
  • Candy corn – This classic Halloween candy goes on top of the bars, but only after they come out of the oven.
  • Halloween sprinkles – These are optional, but add a fun touch!

How To Make Halloween Magic Bars

  1. Begin by preheating the oven to 350 degrees and lining a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Then press the cookie dough into the prepared baking pan and bake for 15 minutes. After it bakes, top with chopped Oreos, chocolate chunks, and Reese’s Pieces.
  3. Next, pour the sweetened condensed milk over the top of the bars as evenly as possible, but it doesn’t need to completely cover.

4. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chunks, Oreos, and the M&M’s over the top of the sweetened condensed milk layer and bake.

5. After baking, top the bars with sprinkles, candy corn, and candy eyes while the bars are still warm and the chocolate is still melty so they stick. Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing and serving.

“Made these tonight for the staff at our gym and for neighbors returning home tomorrow from Disney. Imagine how excited they will all be when they receive this chewy, gooey treat all decorated for Halloween.

Great recipe!”

Substitutions & Variations

Try experimenting with different kinds of candies, chocolate chips, cookies, and toppings to make your own layers! Some suggestions:

  • Candy layer: Crushed Butterfinger, Kit Kats, Heath Bars, Reese’s Cups
  • Cookie layer: Crumbled Biscoff cookies, graham crackers, Golden Oreos, Chips Ahoy
  • Chocolate chip layer: Dark, milk, or white chocolate chips, caramel, or peanut butter chips. You can also sprinkle the chocolate chips on top after baking so they don’t completely melt.

How To Store Seven Layer Bars

These Halloween 7 Layer Magic Bars can be kept at room temperature for 4 days. That said, feel free to refrigerate them if you like eating them cold.

They’re also yummy to eat frozen, too! Stored in an airtight container or freezer bag, they should keep in the freezer for about 3 months.

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

  2. Press the chocolate chip cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the pan.

  3. Bake for 15 minutes.

  4. After baking, sprinkle half of the Oreos, chocolate chunks, and M&M's over the top of the cookie layer.

  5. Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the top, do you best to do an even coating, but it doesn't need to fully cover.

  6. Layer with the remaining Oreos, chocolate chunks, and M&M's and then layer on the Reese's Pieces.

  7. Bake for an additional 25 to 30 miutes. The condensed milk will begin to have a caramel color when it's done.

  8. Remove from the oven and top with the candy corn and sprinkles and allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 2 hours before removing and slicing.

  9. If you made these 7 Layer Cookie Bars, I'd love for you to leave a review and rating to let others know how you liked the recipe!
