Ingredients For Reindeer Oreo Balls

  • Oreo cookies
  • Cream cheese
  • Pretzel twists
  • Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers
  • Black sugar pearls
  • M&Ms or Red Hots

Since this recipe for reindeer Oreo balls begins with milk’s favorite cookies, you know it’s going to be totally yummy! I prefer making these dessert truffles with a classic package of Oreos. However, if you’re more adventurous in the kitchen, you can grab a package of your favorite flavored Oreos for a simple flavor variation!

Oreo flavors such as mint, toffee, hazelnut, and even chocolate creme-filled Oreos would all be fun to try! To keep the recipe balanced, you’ll need 45 cookies of whatever flavor Oreo you choose.

Keep in mind that if you use Double Stuf or Mega Stuf varieties, they do come with more cream filling. Leading the truffles to come out a bit more soft and wet. Therefore, if you choose to use Double Stuf or Mega Stuf Oreos, you may want to consider using a little less cream cheese in the truffle mixture.

How To Make Reindeer Oreo Balls

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pulse the Oreo cookies in a high-speed blender or food processor until fine crumbs form.
  3. Beat the softened cream cheese in a large bowl using a hand mixer on high speed until it becomes smooth.
  4. Add the Oreo crumbs to the smooth cream cheese and mix on medium speed until the two are thoroughly combined.
  5. Portion the Oreo mixture out using a small cookie scoop, and then roll each ball in the palms of your hands to smooth it out. Transfer the rolled Oreo cookie balls onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Transfer the Oreo balls into the fridge to chill.
  7. Melt the dark chocolate melting wafers by using a double boiler over low heat. This can also be done using the microwave by placing the wafers into a microwave-safe bowl and heating for 30-second intervals, stirring in between.
  8. One at a time, dip each Oreo ball into the melted chocolate. Then, gently tap the fork on the side of the bowl to help remove any excess chocolate. Place the chocolate-covered truffles onto the baking tray.
  9. Carefully insert the pretzel antlers into the sides of the Oreo balls.
  10. Add a Red Hot or red M&M for the nose and gently hold it in place to allow the chocolate to set a bit. Then, add two candy eyes right above the nose.
  11. Repeat the dipping and assembling process for all of the Oreo balls. If needed, you can reheat the dark chocolate melting wafers over low heat or in the microwave on low or using the defrost setting.
  12. Allow all of the Reindeer Oreo Balls to set before serving and enjoying.

Reindeer Oreo Balls Substitutions And Variations

  • Melting Wafers – I like balancing the flavor of these truffles by using dark chocolate melting wafers, but you can use milk chocolate for a sweeter treat. You can also use melted almond bark instead of wafers.
  • Candy Eyes – You can use actual candy eyes for the reindeer or black sugar pearls. Piping on the eyes with melted black chocolate would also work well.
  • Nose Candy – Red Hots, red M&Ms, or any red cinnamon-flavored candy, such as Hot Tamales, make great reindeer noses.
  • Dairy Free Truffles – Since Oreos are already dairy-free, you would need to grab a dairy-free cream cheese alternative and dairy-free chocolate.
  • Truffle Flavor – To change the entire flavor of these truffles, consider dressing up my Easy Peppermint Oreo Balls or Oreo Peanut Butter Balls into reindeer!
